Jenny McConnell was recently named regional sales manager of Central Pennsylvania CVB.

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?

I can’t wait to open the doors of the State College area to the meeting planning community and to reconnect with the industry as a representative of this great destination.

2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?

I previously held related roles at Explore York and Destination Gettysburg. While at Destination Gettysburg, I developed meeting planner incentives in the area while involving the destination membership to proactively attract the meeting market. Experiencing the planning side of the industry over the past year has opened my eyes even more into what the planner needs and what really separates one destination or property from another. Through these roles I’ve learned the importance of details, sharing how a certain destination is unique and can offer something different from anywhere else, and how to maximize every dollar spent.

3. How did you get into the industry?

My first job out of college was with the York County CVB (Explore York), promoting to the group tour market. I immediately fell in love with the hospitality industry and with pulling off successful events.

4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?

My main goal is to make the State College and central Pennsylvania community one which comes to the front of meeting planners’ minds when looking for a new destination to hold their meeting. With its easy, drive-able location and affordable rates coupled with "Happy Valley" pride and award-winning meeting facilities, State College is currently an untapped destination in the meetings industry.

5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?

I enjoy the wide array of connections and networking available in the meetings industry. You never know where one connection or one conversation can take you both personally and professionally.

I also like the endless education and growth opportunities  constantly available to me in this industry.
