Instead of just hitting the course for the day, why not plan your next meeting, conference or event at one of Pennsylvania’s top golf resorts, where you’ll get the course, accommodations, event space and dining all in one?

The Country Club at Woodloch Springs in Hawley has been recognized nationally by GOLF Magazine as one of the finest courses in America. The 18-hole, par-72 championship course winds its challenging way over 6,579 yards of fern-carpeted forest, lush wetlands and broad upland meadows. “The outstanding signature 14th hole has a dramatic 220-yard carry over ‘Hells Gate Gorge,’ which is carved from the rugged Poconos mountainside by rushing water some 200 feet below,” says Erica Bloch, marketing and public relations manager for Woodloch Pines Resort and Woodloch Springs. “We also have a 16-acre state-ofthe-art teaching facility with a driving range, and lessons that are tailored to your individual needs.”

Woodloch’s meeting facilities provide the perfect off-site location with a tucked-away feel without a long drive. “Nestled among towering pines and pristine lakes, we are just a stone’s throw from major Atlantic coast cities with three distinct properties to meet a wide range of attendees,” Bloch says. “We offer different types of meeting spaces from traditional conference rooms with beautiful lake, forest and golf course views to a nightclub with high ceilings and theater-style tiered flooring with a bi-level stage.”

Additionally, the resort offers customized team-building programs, providing innovative activities to open up and challenge communication, foster that competitive spirit and strengthen camaraderie. “For any style of gathering, from intense and active to spiritual and meaningful, Woodloch will have the right program for you or we’ll build one to meet your specific needs,” Bloch says. “In addition to team-building, we also offer management workshops, seminars and health and wellness programs.”

“Woodloch provides personalized service from start to finish,” Bloch says. “You will work with a team of professionals, from planning to action. We provide a personal coordinator dedicated to your group. This unique one-on-one relationship greatly enhances the success of your stay.”

Toftrees Golf Resort in State College is annually rated as one of the top 10 “Places You Can Play” in Pennsylvania by Golf Week and has been rated 4.5 stars by Golf Digest.

“The thing that sets our course apart is the great golf course design coupled with our peaceful and secluded setting,” says Laura Phillippi, director of sales and marketing. “The course layout features tree-lined fairways, elevated tees and greens and spectacular views. The secluded environment afforded by the tree-lined fairways can make it feel like your group is the only one on the course. It is also very common to encounter numerous species of wildlife during your round.”

The resort features flexible meeting spaces, group accommodations and world-class amenities, including on-site catering for the day. Meeting rooms range from a 10-person boardroom to a larger space that accommodates 300. And once the meeting is over, attendees can hit the links.

“Guests have many options for getting in some golf during their meeting,” Phillippi says. “They can utilize the 15 percent resort guest discount to play nine or 18 holes of golf. With tee times starting at 6:30 a.m., and twilight specials extending until sundown, it is convenient for guests to hit the links based on their schedule.

For those all-day meetings where guests may not find time get out on the course, the resort also has a driving range and practice putting green available. It also offers golf instruction with a PGA-certified instructor, who can teach individuals or the entire group.

“This is a great way to kill an hour between meetings,” Phillippi says. “Toftrees Golf Resort also has the newest model of TaylorMade golf clubs available for rent, making golf a possibility for every guest.”

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington showcases two extraordinary courses designed by noted golf course designer Pete Dye, including the 7,151-yard Shepherd’s Rock, which opened last July to rave reviews with GOLF Magazine naming it an “Honorable Mention Best New Course You Can Play.”

“The course presents golf in a spectacular setting, as the rolling bucolic terrain provides an ideal canvas for Dye and co-designer Tim Liddy,” says Diane Centeno, director of marketing and public relations. “The course offers plenty of challenge and fun for players of all abilities and is a perfect complement to the resort’s lauded Mystic Rock course.”

Mystic Rock once hosted the PGA TOUR’s 84 Lumber Classic and ranks in the top 60 in Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” and the “Best Course You Can Play in Pennsylvania.”

“A brawny par-72 layout stretching to over 7,500 yards from the tips, the layout features five sets of tees making the course more than playable for golfers of all abilities,” Centeno says. “Natural rock features protrude throughout, making Mystic Rock very appealing to the eyes.”

In addition to its award-winning courses, the golf experience at Nemacolin is best known for its caddies and impeccable service from the moment members and guests arrive.

Nemacolin boasts more than 30,000 square feet of meeting space—25 meeting rooms, two boardrooms, an exhibit area, a business center, a 200-seat lecture hall and three ballrooms— and is truly able to accommodate groups of any size.

“Nemacolin also has four outdoor event spaces available, each surrounded by the natural beauty of Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands,” Centeno says. “Groups can also incorporate the 2,000-acre property, including hosting breakfast meetings on departure day in the gazebo.”

Over the years, the resort has hosted everything from intimate board gatherings to largescale multiroom symposiums. Centeno notes that the staff at Nemacolin has experience with all types of clients and can honor any requests given.

“One-of-a-kind moments are at event planner’s fingertips when working with the ThemeWorks department,” she says. “The team specializes in creating designs ranging from a full-on lush jungle themed-environment, complete with exotic live animal components, to a trip down the Rabbit Hole with Alice in Wonderland.”

The resort can also help bring a team closer together with their unique team-building opportunities such as Special Ops Combat Paintball and Build-A-Boat Regatta, which allow groups to break down barriers and stir creative thinking.

“The only limitation in utilizing the golf course is the imagination of the meeting planner,” Centeno says. “Nemacolin offers events such as night golf and trick-shot shows by top-100 golf instructor and four-time TriState PGA Section Teacher of the Year Eric Johnson. The golf course has also been used as an art studio and the driving range can easily become a drive-in movie theater using golf carts, or an auditorium for a company’s fireworks display celebrating a record breaking year.”

Additionally, Nemacolin offers transportation services—private and group—to and from the Pittsburgh International Airport, Morgantown and Connellsville Airports and other local attractions and communities.

A Winning Score

The Four-Diamond Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mt. Pocono opened in 1980, and its golf course was designed to replicate Sports Illustrated’s 1964 editions of the “Best 18 Holes in America.”

“The architect, Hal Purdy, decided to pick a hole from each of the famous golf courses,” says Chris Zelenka, golf pro. “That includes Pebble Beach, Oakland Hills, Merion and Augusta National.”

The course offers 6,500 yards of stunning fairways, picturesque views and outstanding golf course conditions, and boasts ponds, streams, hazards and elevation changes that make for a great day on the links.

Meeting and event space at the resort can accommodate groups from 30 to 200 people currently, but they are adding an additional 20,000-square-foot meeting space that will allow it to reach out to larger corporations.

“Some corporations may come in just for a meeting and don’t have time for golf, but we find many want to take advantage of this exceptional course and add it into the schedule,” Zelenka says. “We also have a clubhouse with a bar and restaurant and a practice green, but currently don’t offer a driving range. For those who truly appreciate golf, this course is one that is on everyone’s must-list.”
