At the end of 2017, the NYC & Company 17th Annual Visionaries & Voices Gala was held at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City. The annual event celebrates iconic individuals and institutions that embody the vibrancy and vitality of New York City. The 2017 event honored “The Greatest Showman,” a new film from 20th Century Fox; SPE Partners and the new National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey; and the NFL and Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group for the new NFL Experience Times Square. A Lifetime Achievement Award was present - ed to Susan Ungaro, then the president of the James Beard Foundation, for her past 11 years of dedication at the helm of the national culinary arts organization based in New York City.

More than 300 guests enjoyed appear - ances by Tony Award–winning actress Cady Huffman, who served as the eve - ning’s emcee; Union Square Hospitality Group’s Danny Meyer; and chef and television personality Carla Hall, among others. Guests also experienced musical performances from “The Phantom of the Opera,” which celebrates its 30th anniver - sary on Broadway in 2018.

To paraphrase a signature Frank Sinatra tune, “It’s time to make a brand new start of it in old New York.” NYC & Company, the official destination and marketing organization and convention and visitors bureau for the five boroughs, has launched a record-breaking $30 million global multimedia effort with the message “It’s Time for New York City.”  Unfolding in several phases, the campaign will include television, digital, outdoor media and partnerships.

The New York and New Jersey chapters of the National Association for Catering & Events (NACE), along with the Banquet Event Strategic Task Force (BEST Task Force), held an in-person gathering in August, their first since the start of the pandemic.

For its September 2019 meeting, the National Association for Catering and Events (NACE) Philadelphia Chapter—which serves industry professionals in the Greater Philadelphia, South Jersey and Delaware region—thought it would try something different. Instead of focusing on the visual presentation of food, organizers took away the sense of sight entirely, outfitting diners with a blindfold at dinner.
