Times Square, where a 6-ton ball covered with 2,688 Waterford Crystal Triangles drops at exactly midnight, is an iconic location for New Year’s Eve. Equally iconic is the city's offerings for year-end holiday celebrations to help guests ring in the new year in style.

“The ball drop on New Year’s Eve in Times Square is one of the world’s most iconic annual celebrations and we invite visitors and residents alike to enjoy this incredible spectacle,” says NYC & Company President and CEO Fred Dixon. “New York City is poised to welcome travelers with signature style at several key events that will ensure a memorable start to 2019.” To celebrate the incoming New Year, five New York City boroughs including Midtown, Manhattan, and beyond will be hosting events leading up to the monumental Times Square ball drop.

Starting on December 13, Times Square will feautre two 70-foot-tall numbers “1” and “9” will appear for New Year’s Eve enthusiasts to get the party started on Instagram. Times Square will also offer a Good Riddance Day for participants to eliminate their bad memories using a shredder provided by “Shred-it”. The Wishing Wall is also a fun activity for anyone who wants to submit a wish for the 2019 year in person at Times Square or online using the hashtag #ConfettiWish from December 1-29. Possibly Times Square’s most anticipated event, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve with Ryan Seacrest, will broadcast the ball drop and other Times Square festivities globally. The hosts for this event will include Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy with special guest performances to be announced.

In Midtown, several of the events include a black tie event and gala dinner at Peninsula New York’s Rooftop Party, French and Italian-inspired cuisine at the Langham, New York, Fifth Avenue, and The Sanctuary Hotel’s Haven Rooftop Lounge will feature four hours of open bar drinks and professional DJs at its NYE party. The New York Marriott Marquis will also be hosting a five course dinner featuring an unlimited open bar. The hotel includes The View Restaurant and Lounge, located in the center of Times Square and providing a 360 degree view of the Times Square party as it revolves.

Manhattan, will be hosting several events as well. These include the NYRR annual Midnight Run through Central Park which starts at 10 p.m. and concludes by midnight with fireworks, Loews Regency Hotel will be offering an open bar, champagne toast and seated dinner from the Regency Bar & Grill, and Circle Lines New Year’s Eve Cruise in the New York Harbor will also be hosting a party. For returning celebrators, Phish, the popular 90s rock band will return to Madison Square Garden for their 60th performance at the famous arena.

Other events include the New York Botanical Garden’s Holiday Train Show in the Bronx, a night of concerts and celebrations at Resorts World Casino in Queens, and Coney Island USA’s fifth annual New Year’s Eve celebration at Steeplechase plaza in Brooklyn. Find more information online here.
