• The Felt Factory breathes new life into a historic space

The Felt Factory by Romano’s Catering, which recently opened at its North Philadelphia location, has been serving its clientele with a wide selection of package options for over 25 years.

Although the 45,000-square-foot venue is a new option for meeting and event planners, its name pays homage to the history of the property. The space was once home to the former Frogmoore Mills, a factory that produced felt in the 1800s and early 1900s. It was a staple in the Juniata/Frankford community as a source for factory jobs and income for hardworking families. The Frogmoore Mills shipped out felt products all over the country,” says Caitlin O’Connell, marketing coordinator, The Felt Factory by Romano’s Catering.

The venue’s history has also become a defining feature of the venue’s design, with architectural elements from the building’s past still visible to today’s event guests.

“Our building still retains many of the original structures. You’ll find these elements the most prominent in our Mill Room,” says O’Connell. The Mill Room features exposed brick and original woodwork, while the Manor Hall retained many of its original wood structures and the building’s exterior remains as it stood back in 1848.

“The history of our building is overflowing with charm and unique elements. We took a space that was home to the workers of the industrial age and turned it into an event venue equipped with professionals who are committed to quality, integrity and service.”

The Felt Factory is equipped to host anything from wedding receptions and ceremonies to more intimate events like retirement celebrations and baby showers, all in an industrial chic setting.

“Our event spaces each have their own unique qualities,” says O’Connell. “The Manor Hall is the perfect setting if you are looking for a space that can hold up to 350 guests.”

The venue’s Mill Room holds up to 200 guests, while the Capri room provides an intimate setting for 50 to 100.


Then: The Salvation Army building, built from limestone blocks with stained-glass windows, ornate vaulted beams and hardwood accents in 1924, originally served as a charitable social service institution and was used to provide vital practical services to the poor, marginalized and underserved members of the community.
