Matthew Quick was recently hired as rooms executive for the The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.
1. What are you most looking forward to in your new role as rooms executive for The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation? I am very excited to learn more about the area so to better share the story of Lake Oconee and Reynolds Plantation. There is so much for our guests to see and do while visiting our resort.
2. How do you think your past industry experience has prepared you for this role? I recently moved from a resort in Stowe, Vt.—a town enveloped in local culture that appeals to travelers from New York, Boston and Montreal. The clientele is diverse, well-traveled and very much accustomed to luxury vacation destinations. I look forward to providing the same level of service to our guests, while also exceeding expectations.
3. What goals do you have in mind for the hotel for this year and farther down the line? We plan to focus attention on individual experiences; surprising and delighting our guests, as well as carefully executing lasting memories. Ultimately, we’re attempting to leverage those experiences to encourage repeat visits. Whether vacationing from another country or attending a unique meeting venue, we offer an opportunity to explore world-class golf, spa and lake amenities. It’s by design that one simply cannot do everything we offer during one visit.
4. How did you get into the hospitality industry? Shortly after graduating from San Diego State University with a degree in psychology, I was faced with the choice of how I would use my education. I was torn between law enforcement and hospitality, as both were attractive to me. On one hand, I could be fighting crime and serving justice to the most challenged of society; on the other hand, I could help create lasting memories and lifelong relationships. I chose the latter and have never looked back.
5. What do you enjoy most about the hotel? When I first arrived at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation, I felt the resort had so much rustic appeal. I was surprised to hear it had opened as recently as 2002, yet it seemed to be such an established part of the Lake Oconee area. Reynolds Plantation members visit frequently to enjoy dinner at one of our restaurants or to meet with friends and family staying as our guest. Our clientele treat this hotel like home; just as we prefer it to be.
