TRYP by Wyndham, Wyndham Hotel Group’s urban lifestyle brand, recently opened its newest hotel in the heart of downtown Newark, N.J. The nation's third oldest city has been revitalized by recent business development and is home to a vibrant arts and cultural scene.

To ensure that Wyndham hotel guests discover the destination's unique culture, the 101-room property, developed by East Park Street Hospitality Urban Renewal Inc., is perched alongside the Newark Bay, which is home to historic museums, transportation options and the famous Branch Brook Park.

“The city of Newark is in the midst of a spirited renewal with an influx of new business, a dynamic culinary scene and a clear passion for art and culture,” said Kate Ashton, senior vice president of TRYP by Wyndham.

The hotel occupies a historic building from the 1920’s and its past is commemorated through an art deco-inspired design. Created by lifestyle design expert and Hotel Impossible star Blanche Garcia, the hotel’s interior incorporates an interactive experience with historic and vibrant Newark inspired style. Many of the building’s original elements have been maintained, such as the mosaic tile floor.

Guests can find displays of local historic artifacts throughout the hotel. In addition, playful modern touches include Instagram-worthy royal chairs with 3D crowns and an optical illusion mural in the lobby men’s room. The design also incorporates nods to the commuter culture of the city, with transit-style cartoon wallpaper, deco-style copper leaf art pieces, and a laser-cut grid of Newark.

“It’s exactly the urban atmosphere where TRYP by Wyndham guests thrive” adds Ashton. "[It's] an up-and-coming destination uncovered by locals, with its own culture, history and unique vibe- making it the perfect next stop for the growing TRYP brand.”

There was plenty going on for Global Meetings Industry Day on April 4 (the fourth annual Meetings Mean Business Coalition event), but NYC & Company caught everyone's attention by turning some of the city's most iconic buildings blue. Using MMBC’s signature color, the goal was to raise awareness of the impact that face-to-face meetings have on the global economy and NYC.

The following buildings stayed blue rom sundown to 2 a.m.:
