I attended this week’s NJ Conference on Tourism at the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City. The conference was packed with interesting sessions featuring talks on attracting diverse audiences (from African American and women to the LGBT community) to safety, but the best takeaway from the conference was a burst of good news - the numbers are up! Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno happily reported that tourism accounted for $40.4 billion of the state’s economy last year. That’s up a bit from the previous year - which is especially surprising since it was the first summer after Hurricane Sandy.
