Have you read our winter issue yet? In it I wrote an article about top meeting trends. That article was inspired by a session I attended at MPI WEC last year in Atlantic City. It’s funny how things end up coming full circle, because I’ve been asked to serve on a panel in a few weeks about trends in the meetings and events industry.
New Jersey Meetings + Events
Natirar, a 35,000-square-foot mansion located in New Jersey’s Somerset Hills, is undergoing renovations and expansion. The project is expected to be completed in June 2017 and will feature a complete restoration and a brand-new grand ballroom.
Residence Inn by Marriott, located in West Orange just 20 minutes from Manhattan, is starting off 2017 with new incentives for groups and meetings. The all-suite, pet-friendly Residence Inn by Marriott West Orange is located 9 miles from Newark Liberty Airport. The hotel features 128 suites on three floors; a total of 2,394 square feet of flexible meeting space; complimentary on-site parking and daily breakfast; grocery shopping, dry cleaning and laundry services onsite; and a fully equipped fitness center with indoor pool and whirlpool.
Atlantic City’s most anticipated resort and casino, TEN, has recently announced their new executive board appointments.
“Our executive team is what makes the difference. That is why I am excited to announce our best-in-class executives with unmatched expertise and vision,” says Robert Landino, CEO, TEN. “If the question is ‘how will TEN be different,’ the answer most definitely starts with having an all-star executive team.”
It’s often said that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, but in Ellen Hockley’s case, it was an idea that she found in the trash. Hockley, an event planner, knew that some food would go untouched at the end of each event, but one event’s waste particularly troubled her and spurred her into action. “I saw how much food—food that was never taken out of its packages—was thrown in the trash,” she explains.
ISES New Jersey North Chapter held its monthly membership meeting on Jan. 26 at the Morris Museum in Morristown. The event was titled “Amaze-Balls” and spotlighted Jen Slaw, a professional juggler who used juggling as a way to demonstrate work-life balance. The event’s 60 participants were divided into teams of two to demonstrate focus, communication and trust.
Stylish interiors curated by a celebrity interior decorater. Restaurants run by world-famous chefs. Surf lessons outside the lobby door. Are we in Miami? Nope, it's the New New Jersey, where stylish hotels have been quietly making their mark. With two newcomers debuting this summer, the scene is about to get a whole lot hotter.
Ever wondered exactly what media coverage can offer your event and organization? Although media coverage is not the only public relations category businesses need to pay attention to, it can be an invaluable tool. The time and energy pay off in many ways, though not all of them are obvious. With Google searches numbering nearly 6 billion each day, your event’s (and organization’s) first impression may be its online presence.
