Warm your hands and chase the chill at these charming restaurants

Once temperatures drop below 32 degrees, New Jerseyans often seek refuge in snug settings (that is, if they’re brave enough to leave home). Restaurants, adorned with inviting décor and often fireplaces, dot the state and welcome those patrons looking for good eats, warm libations and a chance to thaw.

A Colonial Feel

A board meeting at the Two River Theater turns the pages for inspiring decor

The Victoria J. Mastrobuono Library, located in the Two River Theater in Red Bank, was designed by set designer Neil Prince. The library houses a trove of theater and art books, which were acquired with the money raised in honor of Jacqueline K. Aronson, Two River benefactor and patron of the arts. A collection of scripts and plays produced at the Two River Theater is also stored in the library.

The Inspiration

Melovino Meadery brings the ancient drink front and center

Wine tastings and pub crawls are both popular ways for planners to end a busy day of meetings, but if you’re looking for something a little more unusual, book a private tasting at Melovino Meadery. What’s mead, you say? It’s fermented honey similar in drinkability to wine, just without the grapes. Melovino Meadery, located behind a shopping mall in Vauxhall, is the state’s first official meadery, and tours and tastings are a fun way to get a group interacting.

The scenic drive along Route 29 to the Farm Cooking School’s classic country kitchen (complete with the requisite squeaky screen door) just might have you wondering, “Are we really in New Jersey?”
