IACC – Americas Connect 2018 was recently held in Philadelphia but honored a New York University student with the Doris Sklar scholarship. Established 15 years ago in memory of longtime meeting professional Doris Sklar, this scholarship is awarded to a NYU hospitality student.
This year’s recipient is Camille Aké. She is a senior and will graduate this May with a degree in Hotel and Tourism Management with a concentration in Event Management and a minor in Food Studies.
The award was presented by Dianne Devitt, Adjunct Professor at New York University Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management.
The scholarship includes a grant in the amount of $5,000, plus registration fees and all expenses for the IACC Annual Conference (Americas Connect 2018), held in April in Philadelphia.
Camille’s plans for the future include a job in corporate hospitality and events at a large corporation. She also plans to pursue her MBA. The scholarship was first awarded in 1999, in memory of Doris Sklar who was active in IACC and a proponent of using IACC conference venues for meetings. Sklar was widely known and respected for her work with General Electric and as an independent consultant. In addition, she taught the meeting planning curriculum at NYU’s Jonathan M. Tisch Center for Hospitality and Tourism.
