Industry professionals from 36 countries recently gathered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to attend PCMA Convening Leaders 2019. The three-day conference focused on education and inspiration aimed at driving economic and social progress through business events.

“We built this conference around the theme 'Disrupt + Deliver' because that’s what the industry needs and wants,’’ said Sherriff Karamat, PCMA president and CEO. “We leave here with a greater commitment and better understanding of how business events can and must drive economic and social progress.’’

An exciting mix of experts, advocates, industry leaders and celebrities spoke at the event including Billie Jean King, Seth Godin, Geena Davis, Steve Pemberton and Kjell Nordstrom. This year’s Convening Leaders hosted 138 total speakers, and over half of the presenters were female.

“Every single person here is an influencer,’’ star athlete and change advocate Billie Jean King said in a main stage conversation before hitting tennis balls into the crowd. “When you wake up and have a fire in your belly, you can make a difference and change the world.’’

Approximately 4,000 individuals attended the event, with an additional 1,200 participants tuned into the live-streamed programming. This large number of participants generated an estimated $6 million in economic value for the Pittsburgh region and raised more than $300,000 for the PCMA Foundation through on-site fundraising. Convening Leaders attendees also assembled bags to support victims of human trafficking through Living in Liberty, care kits for local responders and overseas troops through Operation Gratitude, and menstrual kits for women’s shelters through PERIOD.org.

PCMA will continue it’s mission to educate professionals in the meetings and events industry with a dozen upcoming Knowledge Exchanges scheduled throughout 2019. Additional PCMA events include the PCMA Foundation Visionary Awards in Washington D.C., the Education Conference in Los Angele, and the APAC Annual Conference in Macau.
