New Jersey Now Has a Pizza Trail

Image:

October is the month of fall color viewing, pumpkin picking, and pizza. Yes, October is National Pizza Month, and if you’re looking to commemorate the occasion, head to New Jersey.

Others may disagree—let’s make that, others will certainly disagree—but last year Food & Wine Magazine named New Jersey the best pizza state in America, followed by Connecticut and New York in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Pennsylvania landed in seventh place and Massachusetts nabbed 10th place.

Olivella Opens in North Bergen

Olivella, a new Italian restaurant in North Bergen is on the cusp of opening. The first New Jersey project from chef Salvatore Olivella, one of the country’s top pizza makers, the new Olivella in North Bergen will serve brick oven pizza and a full menu of antipasti, pasta and entrees on a busy stretch of Bergenline Avenue, just steps from James J. Braddock Park. The restaurant will have its soft opening next week, but there is no hard date.

Madison’s Stryxe is a Hot Spot for Gatherings

If you haven’t visited Stryxe in Madison yet, it may be time. This facility opened in February 2016 and features a one-stop shop for venue rental space, team-buildings, get-togethers and more. Groups as small as 10 and as large as 500 are equally at home in this space where 12,000 square feet of gathering space includes three private rooms. And for fun? Well, Stryxe has 20 state-of-the-art bowling lanes, plus 31 amusement and parlor games. Gourmet gastropub-style eating is part of the experience.

Local Restaurant Gives Back

One day, a customer walked into Rosa’s Fresh Pizza in Philadelphia and asked to pre-purchase a slice of pizza for a homeless person who didn’t have $1.

Now, all customers have the option to buy a $1 slice for themselves and pay another $1 to underwrite the cost of a slice for someone in need.

“[The donation process] has grown very organically from there,” says Mason Warman founder and owner of the restaurant.
