• Team-Building at Carlo's Bakery Takes the Cake

    FROM THE Summer 2015 ISSUE

It’s all cake, all the time at Carlo’s Bakery, especially at the newly opened Lackawanna factory. This Jersey City factory isn’t just a headquarters for all eight bakeries run by Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, it’s also an interactive event venue. The Lackawanna factory houses a classroom designed for both public and private classes. The classroom is also attached to a small ballroom that can fit a maximum of 100 people for corporate events or meetings. Attendees can expect full-service catering, ranging from a full dinner to a cocktail hour in the small ballroom, but don’t miss out on the teambuilding activities. Each attendee receives a prebaked cake and a Carlo’s Bakery apron and is then guided by a bakery professional with a demonstration detailing techniques and tips on cake decorating. It is common for groups to divide into teams and decorate their cakes amidst light competition. Groups are also offered a full tour (which includes the decorating and baking rooms) of the 75,000-square-foot facility, where the TLC hit-show Cake Boss is filmed.

Get ready for fall with this seasonally appropriate cocktail. Corgi Spirits, an independent small-batch distillery located in Jersey City, has hosted a variety of private events including corporate parties; catering is BYO. The Lounge—a plush drinking parlor—is spacious yet cozy and the entire tasting room can be rented to accommodate larger groups.
